Pennsylvania State Police responded to a home on the 1500 block of South Krocks Road in Lower Macungie, where they came across a woman stumbling out the front door with "numerous injuries," they said in a Tuesday, May 3 press release.

The unidentified woman, who had also called 911, was taken to Saint Luke's Hospital, where she was listed in critical condition, police said. Her injuries were not specified.

Troopers arrested Stephen Lee Malarchik, 53, of Lower Macungie, as he tried to flee the home at the same time the victim was seen outside by police, they said. The extent of the pair's relationship was not immediately disclosed.

Malarchik was charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, simple assault, and terroristic threats, according to state police.

He was arraigned and remanded to Lehigh County Prison in lieu of $1 million bail, police said. His next court appearance is scheduled for Monday, May 9.
